A layover at Incheon is either 2 hours of pacing past duty-free shops, or a chance to eat something you can’t get at home. This guide covers both: where to eat without leaving the transit area, and the airport’s own transit tours, two of which go straight to Incheon’s food markets.
Quick answer: With a short layover, stay airside and eat at the 4F food courts. Several Korean soup counters there are open 24 hours. With 6+ hours and the right passport, join the airport’s transit tour to Sinpo Market (daily, 15:00–18:00, free) for dakgangjeong, Incheon’s famous sweet-and-crispy fried chicken.

Short Layover: Eat Without Leaving the Airport
When you connect at Incheon you don’t pass immigration. Follow the green “Transfer” signs from your arrival gate to the transfer security checkpoint on 2F, then take the escalator up one floor to the 3F departures level. That’s where the gates, shops and food are. Transfer desks for boarding-pass problems are on 2F before security and on 4F after it.
Most of the sit-down Korean food is one floor higher still, on 4F:
- Terminal 1: the 4F food court near Gate 30 (Ontang-jip for beef soup) and the Gourmet Bridge food court near Gate 12 (bulgogi bibimbap).
- Concourse (Gates 101–132): Sodam Bansang and Byeolmiga near Gate 122 for bibimbap, stews and seolleongtang.
- Terminal 2: the 4F food court, with Hyoja Gomtang near Gate 249 and Yuksu Gojip near Gates 252 and 274.

Long Layover: Free Transit Tours With Food Stops
Incheon Airport runs its own transit tours for connecting passengers. Most are free (some charge a small entry fee), with a bus and a guide, and you’re back at the airport in 3–5 hours. Two of them are built around Incheon’s markets, which is where the city’s best-known food lives.
Petit Shopping Delight: Sinpo Market (best for food)
- When: daily, 15:00–18:00 (3 hours), from Terminals 1 and 2
- Cost: free

Sinpo International Market sits in Incheon’s old port district, near Chinatown, and Koreans go there for one thing above all: dakgangjeong (닭강정). Chicken pieces are fried until crisp, then tossed in a sticky soy-garlic or sweet-chili glaze that holds its crunch, so it travels well back to the gate. Shops sell it by the box.
Also try jjolmyeon (쫄면), chewy cold noodles in a sweet, spicy chili sauce. Incheon is widely credited as the place where jjolmyeon was invented, in the 1970s.

Easy Outing in Incheon: two markets and Sorae Port
- When: Mondays and Tuesdays, 10:00–15:00 (5 hours)
- Route: Moraenae Market and Guwol Market, then Sorae Port
- Cost: free
Sorae Port is an old fishing harbor with a big seafood market, where Koreans buy fresh fish, crabs and jeotgal (salted, fermented seafood). The two traditional markets are everyday neighborhood markets rather than tourist streets, a good look at how locals actually shop for food.

Who can join, and how
- Check your layover: it must be 24 hours or less.
- Check your passport: you can join if your nationality can enter Korea visa-free (some also need a K-ETA), or if you hold a visa or residence card for the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or one of 32 European countries and are flying to or from one of those countries via Korea. If you’re unsure, ask at a transfer desk.
- Bring: your passport and the boarding passes for both your arriving and onward flights.
- Go through immigration, then straight down to 1F. The registration desks are in the arrivals area: Terminal 1, desks 19–20 near Exits 1–2; Terminal 2, desks 5–6 opposite Exit 4. If you arrive at the Concourse, take the underground shuttle train to Terminal 1 first.
- Be there 30 minutes before the tour. Online bookings are released to the waiting list after that, and walk-ins are seated first come, first served.
Insider tip: After immigration on 2F, don’t go up to the 3F departures hall. The airport says the fastest way to the desk is straight down to 1F. And watch the clock: if you miss the group’s bus back, the airport says getting back in time is entirely up to you.

FAQ
Do I need to go through immigration to eat at Incheon Airport during a layover?
No. Transit passengers stay airside and can eat at the 3F and 4F food courts and cafés in Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the Concourse. You only pass immigration if you join a transit tour or leave the airport.
Are Incheon Airport transit tours free?
Most are. The tours to Sinpo Market, the Incheon markets and Sorae Port, Hongdae and several others are free. The palace tour (Gyeongbokgung, $3) and the DMZ tour (Third Tunnel, $4) charge an entry fee, according to the airport’s official tour page.
How long a layover do I need for the Sinpo Market tour?
The tour itself takes 3 hours (15:00–18:00), you need to register 30 minutes before, and you go through immigration and security twice. Plan on a layover of about 6 hours or more, and check your onward flight’s boarding time.
Can I bring dakgangjeong back through airport security?
Solid food like fried chicken is generally fine in your carry-on. Sauces and dips may count as liquids, so eat those before security, and check the rules of the country you’re flying to.
